The damsel in distress is a genre that has been used so many times. But the author made it charming, with tension coming from enough angles to keep my interest. The fair maiden was well rounded enough that I was able to respect her, in spite of the troubles she faced. The hero of the story, while having a few rough edges was well intentioned and honorable.
The further I read, the more I enjoyed the story. The ending? It was way too soon and didn't provide enough closer for me. Will that stop me from reading any follow up works? Nope! Would I recommend this to someone to read? I don't know, If I had this, along with the next segment I'd recommend it. But by itself? That's a bit tougher. I can say I am glad I read it, and look forward to the followup.
