Could not get into...
Jan 12, 2018
I tried several times to get into this story and could not. I did not finish this title as it did not hold or grab my attention within the first 25% of the story. I felt the story was almost too descriptive in it's world building and being too wordy really lost my attention.

Complex character and complex plot
Nov 27, 2017
Yes! They just get better and better. “Shifting Darkness” is book 4 in “A Forest of Darkness” series and in my opinion this is the best out of all. It introduces a more complicated main character, dealing with too many issues and as well several other small plots. Even if this book can be easily read as a standalone, we have several items form the forts three books and it’s quite refreshing to meet them again. In this case, the author has complicated things and taken them even farther. Read More

A definite improvement from the last three books
Oct 20, 2017
Oh, wow, NOW we're talking! Though the first three books were equally full of suspense and fast-paced action and romance, I feel like they paled in comparison to this one. In the new book of the Forest of Darkness series, we learn Vince's secret and watch him fight through numerous obstacles to finally get his own HEA. In case you didn't notice, Vince is the cute half-korean guy that works at the bookstore Kaia likes to visit. He's sort of her friend, too, but, as we found out earlier in the series Read More

Shifting Darkness (A Forest of Darkness Book... Kate Wendley
Sep 26, 2017
Fourth book in the series and I now would like to read the books before this one. I found that it took time to read but was a very well written story. It about a Shifter Vince who can not shift and is finding out that things to do with his life have been a lie, he meets Penny a computer whiz but these two will have to struggle with things going on in their life if they are to get a happy ending. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

super sexy!
Sep 2, 2017
This was a really good book although it was finished way to fast. The way the author separated the book made it seem like there were two stories in one book. The conflict that Vince was feeling made me hurt for him, but also for Penny. The author did a great describing Vince and Penny's relationship as well as the relationship between the other shifters. There are so many surprises in this book that I finished quickly. Thank you Reading Alley and Kate Wendley for allowing me to read and write a honest Read More

Betrayals, Lies and Family...
Jun 22, 2017
Vince LaRue is a shiftless shifter, a hybrid were-jaguar who has avoided other supernaturals for his whole life. His mother, Charlotte, is an Asian & African-American were-jaguar, who raised her son to be leery of supes, especially shifters. Vince has had health problems since puberty, but they are getting worse. Working in the same bookstore where Anthony met Kaia, his boss has been understanding about his health problems. Anthony recognizes that Vince is a shifter and gives him a card Read More

Magical Fixes for disability spoiled this for me
May 29, 2017
Shifting Darkness is the fourth book in the A Forest Of Darkness series, and it has a really intriguing premise - a shapeshifter hero who can't shift and is plagued by debilitating weakness. Vince is also Asian, ticking off another diversity box for the book. Slight spoiler; I suspected from the beginning that Vince's disability would have some Magical Solution, and I was right. While Vince's struggles with his weakness and inability to shift are well written throughout the book, paralleling Read More

Thanks so much for your feedback Cait! I appreciate your thoughtful comments. I really wanted to show a main character in the paranormal world who wasn't the usual strong, alpha male, but that still had his own unique abilities that he hasn't thought much about, and some abilities he didn't even realize he had, even as he learns that as a shifter he's considered handicapped. While a tricky subject matter to write about, I'm glad to hear about your's and your friends thoughts on the topic. Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! Kate

The Series Continues To Grow Stronger.
May 29, 2017 (Edited May 29, 2017)
Shifting Darkness, the fourth book in the Forest of Darkness series, is easily my favourite book in the series to date. Each books gets a little bit stronger, bringing something more to the table, with this one threatening to blow me away with all that happens. As a standalone novel, which you can read it as, Shifting Darkness is a wonderful read. There are so many wonderful elements to the story, so many things that will pull you in. When you read it in relation to the rest of the series, this Read More

“He wanted her, though. He needed her.”
May 10, 2017
So far, “Shifting Darkness” is my favorite story in the series, I liked Penny’s strength and her skills with computers and I truly felt sympathy towards Vince after reading about his sickness. Penny and Vince had good chemistry and I loved reading about the time they spent together, flirting and getting to know each other. I also enjoyed the erotic scenes which were very steamy, the author handled their animal nature very well during those scenes and she kept a nice balance between the Read More
