Q: Where did you get the inspiration for this story?
I’ve always wanted to live on a lake or in a small town where you know and care for your neighbors. We get so wrapped up in social media, life and ourselves in general; we forget how to communicate and what’s truly important. What’s important? Love. Friendship. Laughter. Family. Vodka. Not necessarily in that order.
Q: What connects all the books in the Girlfriends, Goddesses & Barflies series?
The three main female characters or heroines are BFFs. Their shared experiences and their unconditional love for each other, ties them and the series together.
I wanted to write a series set in my beloved Oregon. Whisper Lake is fictitious, but it’s the glue that binds all the characters.
Q: What do you enjoy most about writing this book?
I love to write corky characters who make me LOL.
I connect with Dannie and the other women who live on the lake. Dannie is a combination of myself and other women in my life. That old writer’s saying is true—write what you know and it will flow. Okay, so I made that last part up, but you get the picture.
Q: Tell us more about Dannie. What makes her a heroine we would root for?
Dannie is a woman we can all relate to. She’s flawed, disenchanted, lost and angry. But she’s also strong, courageous, loyal, funny and a wee bit crazy. You can’t help but see yourself in Dannie. She’s a broken hearted, complicated, beautiful mess, who isn’t looking for love, but love finds her. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Q: What about the hero, Dino Coletti? What makes him a swoonworthy hero?
Dino possesses all that good stuff women swoon over. He’s a tall, muscular, blue-eyed hottie doctor. But that’s not what makes him swoonworthy. You fall for Dino because he’s far from perfect around Dannie. Dannie turns him into a stuttering idiot and you can’t help but fall in love with the idiot.
Q: I know what you mean! I love heroes like that. Now, what makes them perfect for each other?
Dannie thinks Dino is just like her ex-husband. She’s been there, done that, and doesn’t want anything to do with him.
Dino is everything Dannie thinks he is; he’s been there and done that many, many times. But hold on, maybe he isn’t like her ex-husband in ways that matter.
What makes them perfect for each other is the discovery that they’re not perfect, and that’s okay.
